NATA Lab
SCI’s NATA-accredited lab has recently been upgraded to conduct on-site mix design trials with the goal to develop a more sustainable concrete mix design. In collaboration with The University of Newcastle, SCI’s aim is to develop a low carbon concrete suitable for prestressed precast concrete manufacture that will perform to the requirements of standards like RMS B80 and allow for daily casting cycles. The R&D project is a year-long project broken into two phases;
- Phase 1 Content here for this section.
- Phase 2 Content here for this section.
The aim of the project is to reduce the carbon content of prestressed concrete mix designs by a minimum of 10% and ordinary concrete mixes by 30%.
Sustainability Goals
Sustainability is an adjunct to the Company’s Quality System and utilises the management policies of the SCI Quality System to manage the various sustainability challenges.
- Target and report sustainable performance to generate reliable returns for the SCI.
- Be recognised as a leader and supplier of choice in sustainability by our clients and the construction industry.

- Seek environmentally and socially responsible supply chain solutions.
- Create a safe, diverse and rewarding workplace for our people.
- Deliver sustainable projects that support communities and provide positive legacies.
- Utilise the employment, training and business opportunities that our projects provide to foster diversity and social inclusion.
- Use materials and energy in an efficient and environmentally responsible way to reduce carbon reduction.
- Waste reduction, reducing waste, reusing and recycling wherever possible, ultimately aiming at zero waste to landfill.
- Utilise the installed 100 MW solar power facility to limit reliance on the main-stream power grid, resulting in an approximately 80% offset.
